What to check if images are missing from an export, or if Word formatting looks different than expected.

An image is missing from my exported document

First, check that Include images was toggled on when you exported. It’s off by default, since most manuscript submissions expect text only. If it was on and an image is still missing, check the image’s usage in your asset library: if it was archived after being inserted into a chapter, it may no longer be available to embed. Re-uploading and re-inserting the image resolves this.

The formatting in Word doesn’t match the editor

That’s by design. The .docx export uses Standard Manuscript Format (double-spaced, 12pt, indented paragraphs, running header) regardless of the font, spacing, or width you write with on screen, because that’s the format editors and agents expect to receive. Your editor preferences only shape how the Studio looks while you write. If entire sections are missing rather than formatted differently, open a ticket.

My export is taking a long time or seems stuck

Larger manuscripts with a lot of embedded images take longer to export than a short, text-only draft, so give it a little more time before assuming something’s wrong. Exports also aren’t available while you’re offline, so check the top bar for an Offline indicator. If you’re online and it’s been several minutes with no result, try again; if it still doesn’t complete, open a ticket.
