Roles explained

Owner and collaborator control what someone can do in a shared project; editors and beta readers only ever see the drafts you send them.

Every project has exactly one owner, and any number of collaborators, editors and beta readers.

Owner

Full access: create, edit, and delete anything in the project, invite or remove other people, and change their roles. Only the person who created the project holds this role.

Collaborator

Read and write access to everything in the project. Two people can be in the same document at the same time. See Writing together in real time.

Editor and beta reader

Neither can open the studio. They read a frozen copy of whatever you send them in a draft round and leave their feedback there. An editor is someone giving craft notes; a beta reader is someone reading as your audience would. The two have the same access.

Someone becomes an editor or beta reader by accepting a round invitation. The role is per project; the drafts they can read are per round.

Changing a role

The owner can change anyone’s role at any time from the Collaborators section, without needing to remove and re-invite them.
