Wikilinks and backlinks

Link two notes together with double brackets, and every backlink surfaces automatically so your world-building stays connected.

Notes are more useful connected to each other than sitting in isolation, which is what wikilinks are for.

Linking a note

Type [[ followed by a note’s title to link to it from anywhere inside another note. Select the note from the suggestions that appear, and the link is inserted.

Backlinks

Once a note links to another, the linked-to note automatically shows a backlink in its margin: a reference back to everywhere it’s mentioned. You don’t have to maintain this list yourself; it updates as you add or remove links.

Why this matters for world-building

For anything with a lot of interconnected detail (locations, factions, family trees, invented history), wikilinks let your notes form a web you can navigate by following connections, rather than a flat list you have to search through every time.
