Wikilinks and backlinks

Link two notes together with double brackets, and every backlink surfaces automatically.

Notes are more useful connected to each other than sitting in isolation, which is what wikilinks are for.

Linking a note

Type [[ followed by a note’s title to link to it from anywhere inside another note. Select the note from the suggestions that appear, and the link is inserted.

Backlinks

Once a note links to another, the linked-to note automatically shows a backlink in its margin: a reference back to everywhere it’s mentioned. The list updates as you add or remove links.

Use wikilinks for world-building

For anything with a lot of interconnected detail (locations, factions, family trees, invented history), wikilinks let your notes form a web you can navigate by following connections, rather than a flat list you have to search through every time.
