Alt text, descriptions, and accessibility

Every asset has an alt text field for screen readers and a description field for your own reference.

Every asset carries two text fields beyond its filename: alt text and a description.

Alt text

Alt text describes what’s actually in the image, for screen readers and anywhere the image itself can’t be shown. Write what you’d tell someone who couldn’t see it: “a folded letter on a wooden desk,” not “image1.png.”

Description

The description field is for your own reference: where the image came from, why you added it, or what it’s meant to represent.

Editing either field

Both fields are editable from an asset’s detail page in the asset library, or from the bubble menu of an image already inserted into a document.
