Splitting a scene

Break a long scene into two with a slash command, right where your cursor is.

If a scene runs long, or you realize partway through that what you’re writing is really two scenes, you don’t have to cut and paste content into a new document by hand.

How to split a scene

1. Place your cursor where the new scene should begin.
2. Type / and select Split scene.
3. Everything from your cursor onward moves into a new scene, created as a sibling right after the current one in your manuscript tree.

The original scene keeps everything before your cursor, titles and formatting are preserved, and both pieces show up immediately in the manuscript tree, ready to rename or reorder like any other scene.

When to use it

Splitting works well any time you notice a scene has drifted into covering two beats, or when a chapter draft needs a clean break for pacing. It’s a shortcut for a restructuring move you’d otherwise do manually. The content doesn’t change, only where it lives.
