Working offline

Keep writing without a connection; your changes save on your device and sync automatically the moment you're back online.

A dropped connection doesn’t interrupt a writing session.

What works offline

Almost everything you do day to day:

• Writing in any chapter, scene, or note
• Creating and organizing documents in the manuscript tree
• Editing characters, their traits, and relationships
• Everything on the Plot Board
• Working on a board, though applying or saving your own board templates needs a connection
• Adding, replying to, and resolving comments
• Tagging chapters, characters, notes, and beats

All of it saves to your device immediately and syncs to Endra Studio’s servers automatically once your connection returns.

What’s ready to read offline

Endra keeps a copy of your work on your device. Documents you’ve opened are always ready, and the rest of the project you’re in is stocked in the background a few seconds after it loads.

A device you’ve just signed in on needs that moment to catch up. If you go offline in the first few seconds, or open a project you haven’t visited on that device, a chapter you’ve never opened may come up blank. Open it once while online and it stays available offline.

The sync indicator

The top bar tells you where things stand:

• Offline: no connection. Keep writing; changes are saving to your device.
• Syncing: you’re back online and your offline changes are uploading.
• Synced: everything is safely up to date. The indicator fades away when there’s nothing to report.

What needs a connection

A few features run on Endra Studio’s servers and wait until you’re back online:

• Saving or restoring a version
• Creating or restoring a project snapshot
• Exporting your manuscript or project
• Sending a draft out to your editors and beta readers
• Uploading new images to the asset library
• Importing a manuscript from a file
• Changing your account’s editor preferences or daily word goal

Each of these shows a short “not available offline” note instead of its usual button while you’re disconnected.

Writing offline on more than one device

If you write offline on two devices (say, a laptop on a flight and a desktop at home), both sets of changes merge cleanly when they come back online, using the same merging that powers writing together in real time.
