Board templates

Save any board's layout as a template and reuse it in any of your projects, or start from a built-in like the 3-act plot grid.

A template is a board layout you can stamp down again: the built-in ones cover common starting points, and any board you’ve arranged can become one of your own.

Start from a built-in

When you create a board, or choose Apply a template… on one you already have, three built-ins are offered alongside your own:

  • 3-act plot grid: a labelled acts-by-threads grid to build a plot wall on.
  • Character web: a protagonist ringed by the cast, ready to connect.
  • Beat wall: three act regions to gather beats into.

Applying a template to an existing board adds its layout where you’re looking; nothing already on the board is removed.

Save your own template

Once a board’s layout is worth repeating, choose Save as template… from its menu. Templates belong to you, not the project, so a layout you build in one project is available in all of them. The Include note text switch decides whether the template keeps the writing in its sticky notes or just the empty layout.

Your saved templates need a connection; the built-ins also work offline.
